Education Efforts Linked to Decreasing Incidence of Melanoma in Young People

Great news! A study recently published in JAMA Dermatology reported that although the overall incidence of melanoma has been increasing over the past several decades, there is a downward trend of cases among adolescents and young adults. Specifically the data showed the incidence peaked in these groups around 2004-2005 and then began to decrease.

While the study acknowledges an inability to conclusively determine the cause of this decrease, it concludes that public health efforts to encourage sun-safe behavior may be positively impacting this trend.
